Description:

Exit Windows 95 or 98 through single or double clicking icon in system tray. Access menu
through right mouse button to change options: shutdown, reboot, restart, exit to DOS, logoff,
activate screensaver, standby, power-off, force exit, eject removable media, use hotkey, use
timed exit, run program(s) before exit and exit on single click. Chosen exit option is
reflected in tray icon. Also accepts various commandline options. Tiny program (64k), needs
only one additional dll (16k). Suitable for both Windows 95 and Windows 98. NOT suitable for Windows NT (use ExitsNT).

Commandline:

Exit options:

/u shutdown
/r restart (same as "Start->Shutdown->Restart", hold shift, click "ok")
/x exit to DOS
/b reboot (actual reboot, same as "Start->Shutdown->Restart, click "ok")
/l logoff
/c activate screensaver
/s standby
/p power-off

Extra options:

/f force exit (not with logoff or screensaver)
/m eject removable media (CD-ROM's, Zip's)
/h use hotkey (see below)
/d use double click instead of default single click
/n now, i.e. exit immediately
/t exit after timeout (see below)
/a exit at specified time (see below)
/y synchronise with screensaver (see below)
/w show warning window with countdown (see below)
/z do not read registry settings (see below)

Install/Uninstall:

Small download:

Unzip all files to a directory of choice (e.g. "C:\Windows\Temp"), right click on Exits95.inf
(the "setup" file), and choose "Install". To uninstall, start "Add/Remove Programs" in Control
Panel, then select "Exits 95/98 Uninstall" and click "Add/Remove".

Large download:

To install, simply run "e9setup.exe". To uninstall, use the icon in the "Pete's Tools" group,
or choose "Add/Remove Programs" in Control Panel.

Additional info:

Use the "/n" switch if you want to activate the chosen options immediately. Use this feature in
batch files or with schedulers. Please note that this parameter will hide the tray icon.

Use "/t:n" to specify a timeout (in seconds) before the chosen exit option is activated, where
"n" is any value from 1 to 999999. When used with the "/n" parameter, countdown will begin
straight away and cannot be stopped unless you also use the "/w" parameter (see below).

Use "/a:hhmmss" to set an exit to the specified time, where hh=hours, mm=minutes and ss=seconds
(24 hour clock). If you use a time which has already passed, the clock "wraps", i.e. it assumes
you mean the specified time the next day.

Use "/w:n" to specify a timeout before a warning window is shown which counts down to the
chosen exit, where "n" is any value from 1 to 999999. The countdown can be aborted from this
window.

Use "/y" to synchronise a timeout with the system screensaver timeout: the screensaver is
intercepted and instead the chosen exit option is executed.

Use "/h:x" to redefine the default hotkey (Control+Alt+X), where "x" is any letter from a to z.
Please note that you cannot redefine the modifiers, i.e. the hotkey is always a combination of
Control, Alt and the key you specify.

Open the "Run before Exit" window to specify up to four programs which must be run before
activating the chosen exit. The exit will be executed after the last program has been terminated.

The "standby" and "power-off" options only work if your computer's bios supports these features
and if you activated Windows APM control through the control panel.

If you start Exits95 it will read settings from the registry, unless you specify the "/z"
commandline option. If you specify additional options on the commandline they will overrule any
settings read from the registry (unless no settings have been read due to the "/z" option).

To recap:

Registry Commandline

Not present None Exits will use default settings
Present None Exits will read settings from the registry
Not present Any except "/z"	Exits will use the options specified on the commandline
Present Any except "/z"	Exits will read the registry, but commandline options will
						overrule those settings
Present "/z" Exits will use default settings
Present "/z" and more	Exits will only use commandline options

Please note that the logoff feature will be disabled if no network is detected.

PLEASE NOTE: if you have already installed a previous version of Exits95/98, then you don't
have to uninstall that version. Simply copy the "Exits95.exe" file into the Windows directory.

Version changes:

Version 7.4 changes:

Added the "eject removable media" and "use hotkey" options.

Version 7.4.2 changes:

Changed the forced shutdown. Exits used to send a message to other programs telling them to
close down; it now only does this for the "restart" and "exits to DOS" functions. Other
functions which can be forced now use the proper API to force an exit.

Version 7.5 changes:

Added the timeout options, fixed some bugs, added the screensaver option. Also changed the
"Exits95.txt", to enhance the documentation a bit.

Version 7.6:

The timed exits can now be set from a popup window, apart from the usual commandline options.
Also: added the warning, quick-menu and run-before-exit options.

Version 7.6.1:

Programs started through batch files or .pif files are no longer being dereferenced in the edit
controls (i.e. the ".bat" or ".pif" filename is shown, not the program which is actually being
run).
Added "/z" to disable reading of the registry. The registry is now always read (unless "/z" is
specified), but settings are overruled by specified commandline options.
Added possibility to change the countdown text in the warning window. This text will be saved
in the registry when settings are being saved.
Aborting a countdown from the warning window no longer resets the timer options.

Version 7.6.2:

The Hotkey can now be set interactively.
Some dialog boxes changed a bit.
